Members of the Westchester-Putnam Central Labor Body and civic activists assembled in front of Charles Schwab's office at 50 Main Street in White Plains on March 31, 2005.
Charles Schwab is a major backer of the push to privatize Social Security because it stands to make huge profits managing private accounts. Schwab’s support for privatization is a conflict of interest, similar to previous Wall Street scandals.
Ralliers were there to challenge Schwab to publicly reject the president’s plan to weaken Social Security with risky private accounts. Privatization would mean steep benefit cuts, an exploding deficit, huge bills for our children and grandchildren and corruption on Wall Street.
Ralliers also got hundreds of signatures on an anti-privatization petition which will be delivered to Washington.
