| Hundreds of union supporters assembled at "Chicken Island" parking lot to demonstrate solidarity with the Yonkers teachers as they fight for a fair and equitable contract. Speaker after speaker called upon the City of Yonkers to make a serious financial commitment to their public schools. They pointed out that the schools are in dire need of adequate funding to attract and retain good teachers, re-implement cut programs and deliver the sound basic education the children of Yonkers deserve. Without this solid education the young people of Yonkers will not be able to compete in the job market. |
