The tenth Annual Spirit of Caring Awards Luncheon was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel in White Plains, New York. The United Way of Westchester and Putnam presented the Spirit of Westchester and Putnam Labor Award to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 3 for exemplary leadership in Community Service.
This award was given to Local 3 in acknowledgment of the Community Service Committee and their many charitable contributions to the community. One such contribution is the annual blood drives held in conjunction with the Hudson Valley Blood Services. These blood drives are held two to four times a year and have donated thousands of gallons of blood for those in need. The Community Services Committee also collects toys for underprivileged children. This year alone, due to the extreme generosity of our members, we delivered over a thousand toys to children at Yonkers Children’s Place and the Carver Center in Port Chester. They also participate in the United Way’s Health Walk by helping set up for the event. United Way’s Days of Caring where they participate in small home repair projects, which have included building a playground and painting among other things. The Community Service Committee also donated two Pediatric Crash Carts to White Plains Hospital. The Community Service Committee of Local 3 is proud to accept the Spirit of Westchester and Putnam Labor Award. Ralph Gregory, President and CEO of the United Way of Westchester and Putnam presented the Spirit of Westchester and Putnam Labor Award to Ex-Chairman John Buszta, Present Chairman John Marfia, Committee Member Frank Passarella and Business Representative and Westchester Putnam Central Labor Body President Paul Ryan.
