Early in 2007

The Westchester/Putnam AFL-CIO Central Labor Body was honored with the United Way Spirit of Caring Award for its extraordinary number of community service activities. The Labor Council, representing over 120,000 families of working men and women in Westchester and Putnam counties, has been a shining example of the fact that labor truly cares.

In addition to making generous financial contributions to the United Way, our members have participated in food drives, toys for tots holiday collections, and have volunteered their time with painting, electrical and construction work for shelters and centers. We collect used cell phones for victims of domestic violence and we have donated to coat drives. A month doesn't go by when we are not giving back to the community. The monthly delegate meeting usually includes a 50-50 raffle for the United Way in addition to an ongoing collection of goods for those in need.
