The Painting of St. Peter's Church

Ann D'Orazio
Mike Carriere

Holiday Spirit was high when members of the Westchester-Putnam Central Labor Body showed up at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Port Chester on the morning of December 3, 2004 to clean up and paint the parish hall. The work was performed by members of IUPAT DC 9 with the help and moral support of members of the Organizing and Community Services Committees at St. Peter's which is located at 19 Smith Street in Port Chester, NY.

St. Peter's Church was instrumental in providing a "safe harbor" for service workers at State University of New York at Purchase during a CSEA organizing effort by allowing them to meet in the church hall for organizing meetings and events.

Our special thanks go to Father Hilario Albert, the church pastor, for opening his doors in order to aid the organizing effort. The church is now a little bit brighter for the holidays, and the workers have their union. Special thanks also go to V.P. Mike Carriere (Chair - Organizers Committee) for spearheading this effort with DC9 members, and to Secretary/Treasurer Karen Magee (Chair - Community Services Committee) for helping coordinate this activity.
